Tools

  • Reliable tire gauge
  • Air source

Parts / materials

  • Valve caps if missing

Preparation

  • Find the driver-door placard and check tires before driving or after several hours parked.

Step by step

  1. 01Remove each valve cap and press the gauge squarely onto the stem.
  2. 02Compare the cold reading to the front/rear placard values.
  3. 03Add or release air in small amounts and recheck.
  4. 04Inspect for cuts, bulges, objects, or a tire that loses pressure again. Replace valve caps.

What success looks like

All four road tires match the cold placard values and hold pressure.

Common mistakes

  • Using sidewall maximum pressure
  • Checking hot tires
  • Ignoring repeat pressure loss

Call a professional
