  • Lug wrench

Parts / materials

No replacement parts required.

Preparation

  • Park level, chock wheels, and confirm lift points if removing a wheel.

Step by step

  1. 01Look through the wheel when possible and compare pad material at all four corners.
  2. 02If removing a wheel, support the vehicle correctly and keep removed wheels out from under your body.
  3. 03Compare inner and outer pad thickness and inspect rotor faces for deep scoring, cracks, heavy lips, or heat spots.
  4. 04Inspect hoses and calipers for wetness, torn boots, or obvious uneven wear.

What success looks like

Wear is even, friction material remains safely above its service limit, and no leaks or symptoms exist.

Common mistakes

  • Judging one outer pad only
  • Touching friction surfaces with grease
  • Ignoring grinding or a soft pedal
